On 13 Oct Breas is organising a workshop on ‘The role of the Physiotherapist in advanced airway clearance using mechanical insufflation-exsufflation’, with lectures from Rachel Moses (UK) and Bodil Wilkens (D).
The role of mechanical insufflation-exsufflation (MI-E) is a common intervention utilised by many physiotherapists globally. There is a wealth of evidence to support the use for patients with neuromuscular disease, chest wall disorders and in acute respiratory infections. However the evidence is limited in treating patients who are intubated and there are difficulties for those bulbar weakness.
This session will give insights into the practical application of MI-E for those patients both inside the intensive care unit and those with upper airway dysfunction. There will be practical demonstrations using video laryngoscopy and MI-E
